Jakarta – My First Blog Post

After many years of writing only emails and text messages I am finding my creative skills lacking. Since this is my first attempt at a blog you will have to struggle through my first attempts until I find my groove. I am sitting in the Starbucks in Jakarta waiting for  my husband. After only one day in my new city I already know that I will be spending a lot of time waiting. Waiting for a driver, waiting in traffic and waiting for my language skills to get to the point that a single person here can understand me! 

After a fun month of visiting and saying goodbye to friends and family, I boarded my flight to Jakarta. A 27 hour flight via Greensboro-Dallas-Hong Kong turned into 30 hours when we had to make an emergency medical stop in Tokyo due to a sick passenger! Luckily, I made the last leg of my flight with a mad dash though the Hong Kong airport. Oh well, sweating will probably be my norm while living in Jakarta!

Upon arrival in Jakarta I was met by 2 porters, one who escorted me through the airport and one who took my passport and ran through the airport to get my visa. By the time I walked though the airport my passport was stamped and I had my Visa. We loaded my 10 footlockers onto trolleys and they whisked me out the door to meet Michael. ❤️An amazingly quick and easy process!

Now the unpacking? That was not quite as quick and easy….

I couldn’t expect everything to be so simple, could I? Since my arrival a few days ago I have managed to get lost with a non- English speaking taxi driver, have spent over an hour trying to buy a toaster and have gotten trapped in a non-working elevator. 😬  I have also learned to navigate the grocery store, have been spoiled by the amazing people that work at our apartment complex, have joined the gym and have had some wonderful Indonesian food! Today we are relaxing by the pool, getting massages at the spa and interviewing a helper. Life is good and I am feeling very spoiled. ☺️
